UAE's Executive Education Study
|
|
Gulf news
13/02/2011 |
Manchester Business School and Tecom Investments have teamed up to assess business professionals' qualifications as companies emerge from the global financial crisis.
Manchester Business School(MBS) and Tecom Investments will soon release the results of collaborative study, assessing executive education needs in the UAE by surveying companies across the country.
The report is set to be released at the end of the month, said Nigel Banister, chief executive officer of MBS. However, the results are unlikely to be surprising. "It will be no surprise that apart from standard subjects such as strategy and leadership....it'll be very much business focused," he said. "We will see a focus on sales and selling, looking at new produst development and new markets."
Due to increased market demand for certain skill sets, MBS in true business style will launch a series of short executive courses at its campus in Dubai knowledge village next month. He added that shorter executive education courses will yield quicker results because of their more immediate impact on profit generation.
The world-renowned business school, part of manchester University in the UK, is now ranked 29th - up from the 34th last year - by Financial Times for its Global MBA Programme. MBS has been operational in Dubai for over four years. |

Emirati students awarded for excellence
|
|
Gulfnews
28/01/2011 |
Reem Al Za'abi's appointment as a manufacturing engineer at Global Foundries in Dresden, Germany has her very excited, even though it means she will have to spend two years away from home. "My job will help me learn the best of German culture, and show them our Emirati values. I am also the first female Emirati to join the company, which is why I am terribly excited," Reem, 24, told Gulf News. She was one of 368 Emirati university and public school students recognised at the Abu Dhabi Education Council's (Adec) Student Honours Ceremony 2011 held in the capital yesterday, which awarded student excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Reem, an electrical engineering graduate from UAE University, was part of a select group that attended a summer internship programme on semiconductor manufacturing at the Global Foundries factory.
Reem plans to return to the UAE after finishing her two-year stint and help develop her homeland with her experiences.
Like her, Hamill Al Amiri, another 24-year-old at the ceremony was thrilled at the recognition.
In addition to students like Al Amiri who graduated from six different universities with GPAs 3.4 and above, the Adec also awarded high school students who attended summer internships in Canada and Ireland. Along with them, 79 student-chaperones who accompanied the programme attendees were also recognised. |

Demand rises for master’s programmes in UAE
|
|
Khaleej Times
17/01/2011 |
The demand for master’s programmes in the UAE has grown dramatically over the years, according to the findings of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), which recently held postgraduate information evenings in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The region’s changing job landscape has put quality management and international business among the more desired master’s degrees in the region.
As the UAE and the entire region aspire for global quality standards, there are increasing job opportunities for young men and women to work in quality departments to drive organisations towards excellence.
UAE nationals particularly see an important role for quality management, beside human resources management.
“Since its origin as ‘Total Quality Management’ in the late 1960s, Quality Management has become a central part of every organisation. UOWD was a ‘first mover’ in this area through our Master of Quality Management (MQM) degree, which was developed with the strong support of the Dubai Quality Group,” said Professor Rob Whelan, President, UOWD.
“UOWD is the only university in the region that offers this degree programme, educating participants in all aspects of quality management — focusing on international standards (ISO 9000) and the documentation, implementation and maintenance of quality systems in the context of overall organisational performance and therefore the enhancement of business competitiveness,” Whelan added. |
